Gingham apron
My husband's cousin gave me this apron she found while having a clean up in her flat. She doesn't know who stitched it, or where she got it! Very cute cross stitch on gingham.

Ballarat Apron Festival.
The two aprons I submitted for the Festival both sold for the prices I put on them, which was a pleasant surprise when we saw them last Sunday. I took heaps of photos, and will post as many as Blogger will allow without cutting me off in midstream! I'll add comments to some pics where there is something worth noting.
The show was held in a lovely old church hall. Aprons lined the footpath up to the hall. Just as well it didn't rain!
My gingham apron on the left of this display sold for $15.
And the childs "Sweet Tooth" sold for $10. Note the "Highly Commended" sticker at the top. Somebody must have liked it!
There were some beautiful vintage embroidered aprons obviously from a private collection.
Lots of chooks on aprons!
This section was from a local primary school.
Just one apron made using mens ties - it gave me an idea for next year's festival!
Mini apron bunting!
A large number of vintage chicken scratch aprons on display.
Lots of ric rac used on many aprons!
Dress and brolly made up of selvedge edges.
I loved this idea using Suffolk Puffs (yo-yos) and buttons to make up flowers!
Above and below - two of the volunteers who put this show together, wearing their lovely skirts and petticoat layers.

Some new/old aprons
I have decided to make three aprons for the Ballarat Apron Festival (the maximum number allowed from one person) and I've made an early start with this child's apron. I just need to embroider 'Sweet Tooth' on it and it will be finished.
The next apron I'm planning is applique on gingham. So when I found this unfinished hand made gingham apron for $1.50 in our opshop yesterday, I snapped it up... save me making one - all I have to do is embellish it.
I found another apron in the opshop last week and although it isn't embroidered, I bought it because the patchwork fabric it is made from is so pretty.

Apron Festival at Ballarat, Vic. in May.
I was at the Embroiderers Guild today, and as one of my volunteer jobs is to tidy up the members' notice board, I was doing that, when I found a postcard advertising the Ballarat Apron Festival. I took a copy of it, and looked it up online when I got home. The organisers have a website with all the details, and application form if people wish to make an apron for the festival. They have to be in by April 11, so it gives me a bit over one month to make an apron. Am I going to do it? You bet - everything else is on hold until I've done it - lol! Here is the link:

Hand made apron for my collection.
This charming apron was made for me by Judy in NSW. We are members of a forum that conducts exchanges between members, and for this exchange we had to make something using recycled materials.
Judy explained to me that the cream and blue materials were from the sides of worn sheets. The lace had been passed on several times and ended up with Judy, while the straps for the neck and waist are 'pyjama girdles', very old but unused.
