Included in my embroidery collection are nearly one hundred aprons, and I've had requests from Apron lovers around the world to create a blog to show them off. You can bring the pictures closeup by clicking on them in the bottom right hand corner. I've had the aprons for about a year, but hadn't thought it worth posting photos of them. Changed my mind.

The first pic is of a half apron hand embroidered. The lady who gave it to me said that it was originally a full length apron with bib, but the person who had it before didn't want a bib, so just cut it off. EEEEK.

The second photo is of one that a friend gave me when she found it in an opshop. It is painted, not embroidered, but a rather cute design, so I've kept it.
Gina E.http://www.blogger.com/profile/07532527261977368083noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3855306151122904914.post-3889553944692302822019-02-26T08:47:00.000-05:002019-02-26T08:47:07.448-05:00Chicken scratch apronAn online friend brought my attention to this apron, and I asked if I could buy it. As if I don't have enough chicken scratch aprons in my collection! But this design with the swans is quite unusual, so I was pleased to get it.
It has been a long long time since I bought a vintage embroidered apron - at least a year ago.
One of the ladies at our Quilt Shop stitch and sew group on Friday, showed me this apron that she had bought from someone else for $5. The person she got it from said she'd bought a few of them on eBay for $5, which I found hard to believe, as something like this would normally fetch above $30. I asked her what she was going to do with it and she said she would probably cut it up and use it in craft projects. The look of horror on my face must have been comical, or she was expecting it, because she laughed. I offered to buy it from her and she said how much would you pay? I rashly said $50 and she said immediately it's a deal. But when I got my purse out, I only had $40 so I thought about it some more, and went across to her and said "no, I'm being stupid. I used to pay that years ago when I was building my collection, but I need to be realistic these days about spending that amount of money on my linen collection. So go ahead and cut it up". She asked if I'd pay $40 for it, and I should have said no, but honestly, I haven't seen an apron so beautifully stitched for a long time, and reluctantly decided I had to have it. Had to go to the bank and withdraw some cash to keep me going, but everytime I look at this I think it was worth it!

Gina E.http://www.blogger.com/profile/07532527261977368083noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3855306151122904914.post-36668945424031054372016-04-02T07:10:00.000-05:002016-04-02T07:10:19.350-05:00Another home made apron.This is another apron for a Down to Earth Forum swap. The recipient warned me that she is a large size, and that she likes bright colours. The fabric I used is from a sarong that I found at the opshop a few years ago. I loved the bright colours too, and have hung on to it so I could recycle it into something that I liked, as I was never going to wear the sarong! There is enough fabric left over to make something else, so I might even make myself an apron one day :-)
Last month they invited members to make a dishcloth or an apron for their swap partner and as I don't knit or crochet, I chose to make an apron. My partner is an Elvis fan, and as I have a heap of Elvis themed fabric in my stash, it wasn't difficult to find a piece the right length to make an apron! I made a template from one of my own aprons, and made the neck and waist ties extra long so the recipient has more than enough to tie it on, regardless of her size. As she is on the other side of the world, I have never met her, so the apron size had to be flexible!
Very cute cross stitch on gingham.Gina E.http://www.blogger.com/profile/07532527261977368083noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3855306151122904914.post-33495296242750851702014-05-14T03:14:00.002-05:002014-05-14T03:14:39.270-05:00Ballarat Apron Festival.The two aprons I submitted for the Festival both sold for the prices I put on them, which was a pleasant surprise when we saw them last Sunday. I took heaps of photos, and will post as many as Blogger will allow without cutting me off in midstream! I'll add comments to some pics where there is something worth noting.
The show was held in a lovely old church hall. Aprons lined the footpath up to the hall. Just as well it didn't rain!
I just need to embroider 'Sweet Tooth' on it and it will be finished.

The next apron I'm planning is applique on gingham. So when I found this unfinished hand made gingham apron for $1.50 in our opshop yesterday, I snapped it up... save me making one - all I have to do is embellish it.
I took a copy of it, and looked it up online when I got home. The organisers have a website with all the details, and application form if people wish to make an apron for the festival. They have to be in by April 11, so it gives me a bit over one month to make an apron. Am I going to do it? You bet - everything else is on hold until I've done it - lol! Here is the link:

This charming apron was made for me by Judy in NSW. We are members of a forum that conducts exchanges between members, and for this exchange we had to make something using recycled materials.
Judy explained to me that the cream and blue materials were from the sides of worn sheets. The lace had been passed on several times and ended up with Judy, while the straps for the neck and waist are 'pyjama girdles', very old but unused.Gina E.http://www.blogger.com/profile/07532527261977368083noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3855306151122904914.post-15744236807886196332013-02-01T08:39:00.000-05:002013-02-01T08:39:11.697-05:00Some more aprons!

Unfortunately this apron has a binding of dark blue bias binding, and the blue 'bled' into the other items when I soaked them all in Napisan over night. Fortunately I was able to rinse the run out of the other aprons pretty well, but this fabric is a coarse calico and the blue has stained it badly. Yes please! Old and faded, but much loved, and will continue to be loved in my collection :-)

It is being held at a historic homestead named Buda. None of these aprons are from my collection, but I'm posting some photos on this blog because I know the readers will enjoy seeing them. If anyone reading this has any objection to my posting these photos here, please leave a comment or email me direct, and I will remove them. Don't want to tread on anyone's toes!

It was fascinating for me to note that not one of these aprons is the same as any that I have in my own collection. A couple are similar, but not exactly the same. I love the half apron made from ties - I will definitely try to make one of those some time with my vast stash of neckties!Gina E.http://www.blogger.com/profile/07532527261977368083noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3855306151122904914.post-84474494458637707462012-01-09T08:23:00.000-05:002012-01-09T08:23:45.562-05:00Amazing collection of aprons!Recently I received an email from a lady in NSW who wanted to know more about the reversible apron I featured on here some time ago. Unfortunately I couldn't supply any details as the apron was given to me by a friend who found it in an opshop, and there is no way of telling whether it was handmade or mass produced. This person told me she makes aprons as well as collecting them, and provided a link to her Flickr site. I've asked her permission to post a link to it here, but I'm doing it anyway, as I don't think she will mind! All you ladies who read this blog MUST check this Flickr site out - you will be gobsmacked by the vast array of gorgeous aprons!
The site is http://www.flickr.com/photos/pavlova_is/Gina E.http://www.blogger.com/profile/07532527261977368083noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3855306151122904914.post-9325335967608533922011-11-15T08:51:00.000-05:002011-11-15T08:51:45.265-05:00Two aprons added to the collection.I found these at the newly opened Waverly Antique Bazaar today. I took these photos before I washed and ironed them, so they are a bit creased. The white one is particularly interesting; I've not seen an apron done in whitework like this before. It is difficult to see on this pic, so I'll try for a better one after I've ironed it.
Isn't the orange and black apron a cute design! It made me laugh when I picked it up for a closer look.
Well, guess what I received for Christmas from my good friend LeeAnn who works in an opshop? This gorgeous green gingham half apron! But now I've got two more to add, although I can only photograph one - this green half apron. Don't be fooled into thinking the trimming is chicken scratch - it's not. It is smocking, and beautifully done.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivrYjTn8lfsOveyQh5o0Iy7InwF_3f9RhTcyRY6Y_BPSeDGAQNJ403WE3zRH92CawBSs6LzLYfURaKCky6h8BQsp-_k1U0H4KP_sfZPXNPrqN8j9SOUVSBv_GnbhrnejuN4fL6HsXDv34t/s320/Green+apron.1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5549749298039474034" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0ySsO3zOvq0J_HPM7-2s4SMWp3hjgbAdDCRuQHGS4onhecAOpDNvOAR40aGkSUsD0mh67qHNJZX2n0DLWzlw54EwY8_r8u0OmK93jL0v45h_xWrlbGUA0jiJ8TQR47RFlt66wUjFiVdwK/s320/Green+apron.2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5549748802210176882" />

The other apron that I haven't included here is a calico printed unworked apron. It is quite old, and the transfer is very pale, so it wouldn't show up in a photo. The design is two puppies peeping over a fence. I've got a similar design in a doiley, so I'll copy those colours when I get around to stitching it.Gina E.http://www.blogger.com/profile/07532527261977368083noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3855306151122904914.post-67421501454159861852010-09-09T10:50:00.004-05:002010-09-09T11:03:39.965-05:00Three different aprons.Although this blog is supposedly dedicated to hand embroidered aprons, occasionally I sneak some in which are not hand embroidered. These three came into my possession this week.

I found this one in an opshop for $3.50. It looks as if it is made from separate pieces of fabric, but it is all one piece, printed to look like patchwork. The pockets and waistband are of course separate bits.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdPdWhLNkVs65g4xpVualM2J5rE2vRLnWET5v9uUeEnjWON3a6JE4_NAh2MCz2uKJfqH05T_3xttopLt1Dyng_RWBbrWh5vIs4xp2OZP2i0WkCfjOB6Z86-qwE409op1BWDpai7XggD0Rb/s320/Apron+Vinnies+%242.50.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5514942783238958706" />One of my colleagues at our Guild gave me this apron, which is machine embroidered, but still a charming item worthy of adding to my collection. She found them in her laundry and gave them to me, expressing doubt that they would be good for anything, but I revived them all! She must have overlooked this one, as I found it when we were clearing out her house prior to selling it. It was badly stained, but good old Napisan did the trick as usual. Pink gingham with machine embroidered trim.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSUOz4jpZ2bV6tQYLEzmw_hLy-14HINyYWHDe8-Jk-N6uQYuxsgBc-fU2KGe8JYVrLnmMI9dqD-VrkgaZiE4AYGkTr9xSo8F86kiOqWf2RAMZanafVVJgI3whk0S2Bd6mM3FDaprUl6ycs/s320/Pink+apron.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504690977590128210" />Gina E.http://www.blogger.com/profile/07532527261977368083noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3855306151122904914.post-75138323036457735772010-08-05T07:44:00.003-05:002010-08-05T07:58:58.350-05:00Two additions to my collection.Hooray! I finally have something to post on this blog, thanks to a friend in NSW. I had an old cushion cover commemorating a coronation, and offered it to Sylvia, knowing her love of Royalty memorabilia. She was very pleased to accept it, and offered to trade some of her goodies for it. Sylvia has an extensive collection of embroidered aprons, all (or most) of which are different to mine, so do visit her blog for a look.
Here are the two she sent to me - the first one commemorates the opening of Sydney Harbour Bridge.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXfqMpRH6NxyhpCvizlmadKC9vfW1IHz-2r3YbV-o3bHzHvtt2y4hKx5CgOoMrgpz56C52NkNIWyjmjZKTC6rIyCWCmdOkOu6n1Dwrlh1tyJ8PzJ7clIUirKAw7geHOz0Uw8NiRR7_HFvr/s320/Sydney+apron.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5501907344718768354" />
This one needs a bit of embroidery to finish it, then cutting out the apron, attaching the pockets, and binding the edges.
